New Exhibit Explores the Rich History and Lasting Legacy of the National Aquarium

May 30, 2019

Gecko Group is thrilled to share a recently opened exhibit. The History and Legacy exhibit at the National Aquarium tells its storied history. The exhibit explores the Aquarium’s humble beginnings in a 1873 research station. It connects that history to the iconic modern facility on Piers 3 & 4 in Baltimore. The exhibit shares stories that have helped define the National Aquarium. It illustrates the Aquarium’s importance as a world-class institution. It showcases how the Aquarium stands as a community and conservation leader.

Gecko Group collaborated with National Aquarium staff for this project. We created a compelling and visually stunning exhibit that welcomes and engages audiences. We used resources from the nation’s capital, as well as the archives of the Aquarium in Baltimore. These resources let us weave together many stories to communicate a vibrant history. The Aquarium wanted their story to become an interactive and participatory experience for guests. Using a write-in station where guests share their experiences, tactile elements and interactive flip panels, the history and legacy exhibit has become a unique centerpiece in the entry area. The exhibit also incorporates donor recognition, honoring the work done years ago to save the Aquarium in DC.

You can see the History and Legacy Exhibit now at the National Aquarium in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
